So ive been watching some christian bale movies, not even on purpose, just by chance.
And ive been thinking about putting an actors list together for Evan Reviews Everything.
I have always loved christian bale, american psycho, a cult classic that i think everyone loves. He was my favorite John Conner by far. His portrayal of Cheney; out of the furnace, my mans got range, and just thinking about it, im like, i feel like ive never really listed christian bale in my personal top favorites, i feel like i been disrespecting my man. Is it because i kinda see him as batman, his biggest role, yet my personal least favorite of his, not to say i dont like those movies, but compared to his others, it just doesnt do it for me.
Its weird to me they even thought of christian bale for that role. I will say i thought he made a decent Bruce Wayne, but idk his body build was off. I think Ben Affleck is much better for the role, personally. But I digress.
My man has an impressive catalog of awesome films. I would list my favorites but it would basically be me copy and pasting his entire IMDB Page, so not much point. One of the films i just rewatched for the first time in a long time was Rescue Dawn, such an awesome fu*kin movie, he and everyone in that movie kills it.
Lets not forget to mention the insane transformations this man puts his body thru for a role, its just insane to me, and probably takes so much fuc*in mental strength.
My point is when your that consistent you better be getting the respekt on your name that you deserve and i just feel like i been doing my man dirty, so much so, i felt the need to post this, also as an announcement post that my actor list will be coming soon, this one will be different than the other lists because im going to try and rank them from best to worst without a star system, could take some time.
Okay, this is a big one. One of the few reviews that will receive a perfect score from me.
I don’t think people remember just how big this show was, it dominated that era of tv. I remember watching it with my dad when I was younger, I fucking loved it. Who didn’t? Is there even one person out there talking shit about The Sopranos? Im sure there is actually, some people are just like that.
But listen, the writing for this show, the performances from the cast, the dialogue, its just so dam fuckin good. I can not say it enough, going back and watching this for ONLY MY SECOND time, it makes me miss the fuck out of James gandolfini, and makes me wonder what we could have seen from him if he hadn’t passed so young. This show explores many themes of the human experience, with Gandolfini at the helm, and Jesus Christ no matter the scene, he fuckin kills it, he was no doubt made for that role.
Something I noticed, my first watch through I hated the Chris character and the actor and everything about him lol. On my second watch through I still hate Chris for fuckin up so much, but now that I’m older and can appreciate this stuff, that dood fuckin killed that role, to me, and I could honestly say this about every actor in the show, some of the best acting comes from Michael Imperioli.
This show, is #1 for me, with Breaking Bad following very close behind, its actually pretty hard for me to decide which one comes out on top, but I gotta pick sopranos just for like overall story/dialogue and my enjoyment of the series, Im a sucker for anything mafia, theres many things breaking bad does better than sopranos, but I think it shouldn’t be lost on anyone that breaking bad had the advantage of sopranos coming out before it.
THE CONTROVERSIAL ENDING
I remember sitting down with my dad and watching the finale not knowing what the fuck was going to happen. I remember feeling a bit overwhelmed that a bigger event didn’t take place, like a big gun fight or something, but whatever, they figured it out and alls well ends well, at least thats what we think when we sense a wind down coming in the diner. Tony sitting waiting for his family to join him, one by one, members of his family join him at the table. When Meadow walks through the front door, then blank.
The screen goes black. Me and my dad both thought the tv went out and we were pissed, cursing up a storm, then we realized that was it, that was the end. And we were almost even more pissed than when we thought the tv had went out.
So what happened?
Well, supposedly the man in the members only jacket that came in to the diner while Tony was waiting on family members who had briefly sat at the bar then went into the bathroom, came out of the bathroom, and shot and killed Tony in front of his family.
INTERESTING NOTES RELATED TO ENDING
Tony’s POV, Chase sets up a series of shots in sequence, where Tony hears a bell, you see a shot of Tony from the doors POV, then you see a shot of tony’s pov looking at whose coming through the door…. When meadow finally parks her freaking car after trying 100 times, she comes in and you see her seeing Tony, the next shot should be Tony looking at her, but instead the screen cuts abruptly to black and waits a few seconds to show credits, different from the usual fade to immediate credits. People have noted that had Meadow known how to park a car, she would have been sitting next to Tony and blocking the hitman’s shot.
The hitman was wearing a members only jacket, “Members Only” pops up quite a few times through the show, its the title of an episode, the episode in which Tony gets shot and almost dies, members only can be seen as a reference to being in the mob, and a big link to Eugene who was yet another rat in Tony’s crew, the man who killed himself after Tony denied his request to retire to Florida, he often wore a Members Only jacket and was called out by Vito for wearing said jacket. Many fans claim the “members only” represents everyone Tony has ever wronged in his life. Many of the other patrons in the diner represent an event from a previous episode that involved killing someone.
The bathroom was directly to Tony’s right, or the “3:00” position on a clock. After Christopher was shot and was lying in the hospital, he informed Tony and Paulie about a dream he had in which a dead man told Chris to tell Tony and Paulie, “3:00”. Its important to note the members only man came out of a bathroom just like in the movie “The Godfather” which was tony’s favorite movie. Tony is also seen peeling an orange, another nod to The Godfather.
Throughout the entire show it is alluded to that there are only two endings for Tony Soprano, jail or death.
In conversation Tony, Jr and bobby talk about what its like being killed “I mean, our line of work, it’s always out there. You probably don’t even hear it when it happens, right?”
REASONS FOR TONY TO BE KILLED?
“Patsy Parisi at one point in the series pointed a gun at Tony Soprano through his home’s window overlooking his swimming pool and considered shooting him to death, as revenge for ordering Gigi Cestone to kill his twin brother Phillip “Philly Soons” Parisi. Even in his drunken stupor, Patsy decided against it and instead urinated in Tony’s swimming pool. He had the motives to kill Tony and may have also seen it as a way to stage a coup d’état of the DiMeo crime family and take over as boss. Patsy Parisi may have hired the hitman to kill Tony.
Silvio Dante was shot several times and left in a coma by a man wearing the same “Members Only” jacket who was part of the Lupertazzi family hit squad sent by Phil Leotardo. It is unknown if this is the same man or merely someone associated with him who has similar taste in clothing. Patsy Parisi shot back at the hitmen but may have intentionally missed his shots to set Silvio up to be killed as part of a larger revenge mission and coup d’état against Tony Soprano.
Despite the hit on Phil Leotardo being sanctioned by the Lupertazzi family, the job was done very messily with Phil being killed in front of his wife and infant grandchildren, and then having his skull crushed by his moving SUV that was stuck in drive. Tony may have been shot to death at the diner in front of his family to send a message that if you perform a messy hit like that, you’ll die in another messy hit as punishment. Relating to the above, Tony may have been considered a loose end to the new leadership of the Lupertazzi family, and killing him was likely considered severing the final link between them and the Phil Leotardo hit. ”
when its left to the audience, to me, thats not a definite answer… open for interpretation really means it could go either way you like….
this is the case of tony soprano being whacked at the end of sopranos
a big chunk of the fan base is very adamant about the fact he was killed, while another big chunk is just as adamant on the fact that he lived….
the thing is, none of these people are right cuz there not the creators, the creator/writers have been consistent in keeping it open ended to try and keep everyone happy it seems, tho i dont think anyone was happy with how it ended lol, chase did call it the death scene in one interview, but i think he simply was referring to it as such cuz so many others have been….
in my mind which could be totally wrong, im just trying to put myself in his position, the creator couldnt decide which way he wanted to lean, so he chose this scenario, i think the correct answer to the question of, did tony soprano get whacked? is whatever you decide lol.
people want an answer, but sadly to me, it seems we dont have a definite one, more than likely because the creator was scarred of pissing off a big chunk of the audience, so he made this open ending that could go either way so audiences would be debating it 14 years later. Genius move in my mind.
heres my thing, throughout the series, theres give or take around 10 people who at different times want to kill tony soprano for different reasons, AND WE SEE THE DISCUSSION HAPPEN EVERY SINGLE TIME
so if like many claim, and the new york bosses decided to take tony out after he killed Phil due to his greediness and all thats transpired, why wouldn’t we see that discussion happen? — also this doesnt make much sense to me, as they were looking for peace and decided thats what was going to happen after phil went away… killing new jerseys family boss would surely get the new jersey outfit looking for retaliation and the conflict would continue, to me, it would make more sense to kick janice some money for bobby then let the peace and money making continue between the families…. taking out tony doesnt seem to have upside other than not having to pay janice a lil bit of money
I could understand the bit about the messy hit and New York being mad, I mean look at Tony not giving up the other Tony to Phil cuz they said it wouldn’t be quick and discreet. But again, they had more upside to keep Tony alive in my mind.
I’m gonna make ppl mad with this so let me just say it does seem like tony gets whacked, I’m not saying FOR SURE that he did or did not, but for the reasons i said above, to me it doesn’t make sense and doesn’t match patterns of the show, fuck all this speculating and guessing and talking about how I or this guy saw the scene, i want an answer from the creator or writers lol.
Lets say he got whacked, for me, it wasn’t the members only jacket guy, I agree with Anthony Teska lmao. It makes the most sense.
I watched this coming off of my Army of the Dead review, so it may have helped it. That being said, I thought this movie was pretty dope, I went in expecting it to suck to be honest, I was pleasantly surprised. The fights and fatalities were pretty sick. Scorpion was dope af. Subzero was tight, all the characters were pretty dope to be honest. The visuals were really well done.
The only thing I will say is it kind of felt anti climatic I guess, im not sure how to describe it, but I guess it was because I was expecting an actual tournament but then the final battle happened and it was done, dont get me wrong the scorpion reveal was sick nasty, I guess I just thought there was gonna be more I didn’t realize we were entering the final battle when that happened.
Ill for sure be checking out the next two they have planned, in the meantime I would recommend this movie over Army of the Dead lol.
The best part of this movie was looking for the Chris Delia replacement scenes… I cant imagine Chris Delia in this movie, I kind of want to see #thedeliacut lets make it happen
Zack Snyder is a controversial director for some reason, so Lets start this review off by saying that I am a fan of Zack Snyder. I thought 300 was dope as hell, first of its kind in many ways. MOS was amazing, the man brought us the first badass superman movie. I thought BvS was cool but for sure could have been better and I think the Martha line was not the right way to go about it lol. Day of the Dead is a cult classic, I remember watching it when I was young, it left a lasting impression. I love the dood’s visuals and love the stuff he gets right.
That being said, im not one of these hardcore fan boys who says he can do no wrong. Too many people have this mindset now a days, where they think someone they like can do no wrong. We see it with people and their preferred political candidate for instance, but thats a topic for another day.
I went into this movie thinking it was gonna be good, thinking I was gonna like it. Nahhh, this movie sucked lol. It was a fun watch, but only cuz we were making fun of the plot, the dialogue, forced moments, the wide ranging field of depth, zombie behaviors and runs, the stupid backstories/sub plots it tries to put in, the robots lol, the zombies that knew kung fu … this movie had a lot going on.
So if your alone looking for a good movie to watch, I wouldn’t recommend, but if your with some family members or friends looking for a good bad movie to make fun of this ones a good choice, its pretty stupid lol.
Again, not trying to shit on Snyder, I like the guy, and I forgot to mention above that I thought JL the snyder cut was freaking amazing and I think he should have control of the DCEU. BUT, I was just expecting different from this, I understand its more on the fun side anyway, he wasn’t looking for any oscars, but still…
So HOLY SHIT! We are here! Triple Frontier is finally on Netflix and this is something I’ve been waiting for since the first time I saw the trailer, its got my boys Ben Affleck and Charlie Hunnam in it, as well as Oscar Isaac, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal which equals one of hell of a team, the casting for this movie was superb, arguably the most stacked lineup of 2019.
So without giving too much away cuz we all know that’s not what my reviews are about, the movie is about these guys going to get some money from a drug lord. Right off the bat you have a feeling things aren’t going to go as planned. That feeling or suspicion if you will, is soon confirmed. A crazy mission ensues and I was literally on the edge of my seat for most the movie, the suspense in this movie is real.
The soundtrack and score for the movie were great and added to the suspense, the cinematography was really nice, amazing shots and lighting, awesome action scenes, I took notice of one scene in particular when they are clearing rooms in a house, excellent camera work and choreography.
The story is amazing, action packed, and tragic. The screenplay and story are by Mark Boal, the writer who brought us the likes of “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty”, which are amazing movies. This was genuinely one of the better movies I have seen lately, now that I think about it, I’m sure its my favorite movie of the year so far, unless Im forgetting one. I was never bored, and the movie picks up pretty quick and keeps on going.
If you made it this far Im sure you can conclude that I highly recommend this film, which is live on Netflix right now!
Go check it out and support these badass actors. Its just nice when every once in a while a movie comes out and every thing comes together, great director, all star cast, and everything else behind the scenes, I have such a high level of appreciation for this shit.
If somehow you missed the fiasco which was Fyre Festival when it originally happened back in 2007, I’m sure you have heard about it more in great detail this past week with the release of 2 documentaries, a Netflix Documentary called “Fyre: The Greatest Party that Never Happened” and a Hulu Documentary called “Fyre Fruad”.
We all had a laugh at rich millennial’s expense back in 2007 when they quickly realized their THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS luxurious getaway to Pablo’s Oscobar’s island for fine cuisine and top of the line musical performances with beautiful models and influencers was actually a SCAM. It was a huge cultural moment and dominated the social feeds with countless viral videos, pictures, and memes all poking fun at the “poor” rich kids.
As a festival goer I could perhaps feel bad for some of these people, but to me, these are the same kind of people(for the most part) that go to Coachella, because its fucking Coachella, they don’t go for the experience or music, they just want an instagram picture there and to be able to say they were there.
That being said, there are a lot of people to feel sorry for in this story. The locals of Exuma Point that were never paid, Fyre Fest staff never paid, Maryann Rolle who spent 50,000 of her personal savings to cater to the attendees and staff, Fyre Media Staff left with debt on personal cards, investors being lied to and losing millions and countless more.
So which one would I say is better and recommend?
Well both. For different reasons. I think you should watch both to get both perspectives.
The Netflix Documentary
Features alot of exclusive behind the scenes footage of the early stages of shitty planning leading up to the epic failure of Fyre.
Includes interviews from previous Fyre Team Members and people from Exuma Point that were directly affected.
The build up of hype for the influencers just to see that change so quickly is priceless
The Hulu Documentary
Goes more into depth about the leading up to Fyre Fest, as well as an interesting look at financial specifics in which Billy was committing criminal offenses.
Includes interviews from an (ex) Jerry Media Employee that is quite a revealing look into the Media Company’s role in all of this, as well an interview from previous employees of Billy Macfarland, as well as an interview from Billy Macfarland himself.
With the Interview from Billy, he is asked some real legitimate questions about the fraud he was committing and the look on his face/delayed response really expose this POS as a pathological liar.
This documentary call’s Jerry Media out for their involvement, the statements made by the ex-employee paint a different picture than that painted by Jerry Media in the Netflix Doc(I wonder why? See below)
Things I don’t like about these Documentaries
The Netflix Documentary
This documentary was produced by Jerry Media, and while they don’t paint themselves to be saints, they try to neglect some of the responsibility by putting it on the Fyre Team.
The Hulu Documentary
Hulu paid Billy Macfarland for his interview.
My final thoughts on Billy,
He is not remorseful and he doesn’t see anything wrong in the things he has done. Doods a POS. The whole thing was a scam from the get go. And he knew it.
the worst thing about these fyre fest documentaries is that the very scammers responsible for Fyre Fest are profiting from them.
Its all very interesting from a marketing stand point. The whole story is a testament to how powerful influencer marketing really is.
I wonder how many brands will want to partner with Jerry Media after this. In the netflix doc (that they produced) they laid it all on the FYRE team, which when i watched at first I believed them because i have had clients like they were describing the Fyre team to be.
Then after watching Hulu’s it became apparent that they knew much more than they led on in their doc.
If my agency was marketing something like this and we started to figure out what was going on/being asked to filter negative comments, I would have backed out and told the public exactly why.
They were posting up until the day of… trust me those fuckers knew, they should have did what was right but it seems like they thought they were going to be the exception when it came to getting paid. Which they weren’t, so now they can play victim too! oh and they can also donate to the go fund me page to try and save some face.
if they really felt that bad, why not reach out with that money to that lady sooner, why wait almost 2 years untill 2 documentaries make you look bad to give her back what is hers?
I bet if these documentaries were never made, they would have NEVER gave that woman money back.
The netflix documentary and them donating that money is PR STUNT, their way of saving face.
i would recommend watching both for different reasons though, each one features exclusive interviews, and you can better compare the conflicting talking points, and watching both gives you better insight over the whole story.
Just so crazy that something like this could happen the way it did. The power of influencer marketing is astounding.
So, Whats the take away?
The power of influencer marketing. Im a digital marketer so you know I was gonna go there! But seriously, how could they pull something like this off!? Well, all they had to do was make a bunch of influencers believe it was real and post about it. Thats about it lmao.
So right off there back I love this idea. As a kid I always loved those choose your own adventure books, its very exciting to see this in a movie/tv format.
A few choices in and I’m like fuck, I’m gonna have to watch this a few times thru making different decisions to see how it plays out. Its just like video games that have multiple endings, I’m always indecisive on the route I want to take, I always have to have a few run thru and experience every possible outcome.
I made a choice and one of the main characters told me, “wrong path mate”, fuck, I’m fucked. I already want to restart lol. … but wait, I see… this is dope!!!! Just like those books saying flip to page 47 to reveal you fucked up so you gotta go back, the movie fast forwarded thru what I had just watched and brought me back to the decision point I messed up, BUT the character that had told me “wrong path mate” was acting different, what could that mean?
But I did just run into a decision point that had only one choice so I don’t get the point of that. But moving on… (Found out from one of the links below there is a way to unlock another choice here)
As always Black Mirror delivers a fucking killer story, I’m not even half way thru and this story is amazing, without giving spoilers thats all I can say, its incredible, I love this type of story telling, black mirror makes me want to get back into writing for sure.
I don’t want to give to much about this experience away but this was a really sick idea that was executed very well, its really cool(spoiler) how you control this characters fate and they start to become aware, you almost feel like a mad scientist running an experiment.
I highly recommend that you watch this at least once, who knows you may find yourself going thru it a few times lol.
Okay, I finished it… and as I said half thru it, it was amazing, what an awesome concept that they pulled off beautifully. That was an awesome experience, an awesome story, awesome outcomes, an awesome ending, in typical Black Mirror fashion. Now like I said before I may have to go back and watch it a few more times to see how much I can change the beginning, middle and end of this story.
IMO, this was a huge success for Netflix, Black Mirror, and the future of interactive media.
SideNote: I loved how they included Netflix into the choices, very meta of them, lol. (That ending is being called the Meta Ending lol)
I wanted to expand on this : “how you control this characters fate and they start to become aware” I absolutely loved how instead of the story just unfolding with what decisions we made, with the character being none the wiser like in typical choose your own adventure book, they made the character become aware he was being controlled but also weaved in a mental health issue
If you want to know more about all the possible outcomes/endings fans have begun creating flowcharts, mapping all the decisions and outcomes in Bandersnatch. Vulture as also released an article explaining all the endings, The links are below:
